McLaren discovered The Sex Pistols, as a new punk band aiming at bringing punk into fashion in the UK. The Sex Pistols began an immediate controversial career due to their stances regarding regulation, a display of which included their famous interview with Bill Grundy where they demonstrated the new free, hedonistic values of the future generation by swearing on live TV.

The financial and political state in Britain was bad, creating the perfect opportunity for rebellion. English Punk took a largely political and economical focus, bringing the fashions of SEX (Westwood) to the forefront of culture and promoting views on unemployment.

Punk became a form of speech. Social upheaval began regarding racial tensions and unemployment. Queen Elizabeth’s silver jubilee occurred in the year of the Sex Pistols release, “God Save The Queen.”

Henny states that in Britain, punk represented "working-class youths reacting to the bourgeois status quo.” The social anarchy in the UK worked towards equality and unity in it’s separation from the conventional society of the time.
