How We Will Appeal To Our Target Audience

How we will appeal to the punk audience in our coursework. As previously stated throughout my planning and research the sub culture of Punk has many codes and conventions, from cultural ideals, ideologies, fashion, stylings, unique enterprising, social class and so on, the extreme diversity present within this genre grants us the ability to choose from a wide range of these conventions to fine target a smaller audience. The bands music style and lyrics will already be aimed at appealing to the target audience.

The first thing we will focus on is fashion. Within this diverse range of style from skater jeans to studded leather jackets we have decided to adhere to many of these codes (by the presence of the chosen clothing worn by the band in the video) but at the same time challenge many common conceptions on the typical attire that punk rockers wear (such as the stereotypical green mow-hawk etc).

Next we will appeal to the audience aesthetically with clear, sharp visuals, relevant aesthetic effect and elements and eye catching imagery. Some common imagery and actions may be used as well such as grunge styled band close ups, close ups of the equipment, spitting, aggressive interaction with the camera, skater influences, hard-style actions and movement of the band, lighting effects whether colourful or a grunge styled gloomy atmosphere.

Then finally we will appeal to the audience as much as possible by including any relevant content typical to the genre or style of music, the elements they enjoy the most. This combination of enjoyability and the codes and conventions of the genre will result in further more attracting the audiences attention and appealing to them to listen to the band or watch the music video.

We will be using various techniques to do this, from the use of terminology typical to the genre, colour schemes, common style of effects (yet retaining uniqueness from other bands), adhering to the codes and conventions, mise en scene, cuts, camera techniques, editing techniques, subject placement and so on.
